Gillett Pond's 30 acres, wetlands and wooded shoreline, set alongside thousands of acres of protected forest, are home to a wide range of wildlife. Quiet, careful observation can reveal signs of moose, bear, bobcat, otter, mink, beaver, fox, ducks, geese, songbirds, raptors, frogs, turtles, salamanders and many other species. The Pond itself contains a variety of warm water fish species, including bluegills, perch and bass.

Scientific assessments ranging from the State's BioFinder program to county-wide studies to the local, four-town Science to Action project consistently give the Pond high scores for the quality of its wildlife habitats and other natural resources. Naturalists use it for wildlife and habitat research, and local schools and colleges find it a valuable educational resource for class field trips.
